Well this where things went badly wrong, for I started to think - always a dangerous thing. What partner would do with spade102 - maybe he would think that the ten would be a dangerous card if declarer started with two small. To give myself another chance of seeing a meaningful card from partner, I now continued with a highly questionable clubA. After all, partner had to have the heartQ for his earlier play in that suit, so I knew that I was likely to get another chance of giving partner a ruff if I retained clubA. On the discouraging club6 from East I still persisted with the suit ... not a success.

Partner was the origin of the more justifiable sarcastic comments. "Congratulations, you found exactly the only sequence of cards to let the contract through".

2023 Looking back at this hand it's difficult to think what earth was in my mind at the time. I should have retired at that stage.
