The poor players on this hand won at trick one and woodenly continued hearts. Declarer won in hand cashed two rounds of clubs ending in dummy and led diamond10. East won again and continued hearts in lobotomised style. Declarer won, cashed a few clubs and eventually made 11 tricks after taking the diamond finesse.E-W -660.
The better players ducked at trick one, won the diamondA and led another low heart "to maintain communications with you, partner!". This allowed South to cash all his minor suit tricks and squeeze East in the majors for twelve tricks! E-W -690.
The expert East ducked at trick one, won the diamond switch and plonked spadeK on the table. That was -630, but gaining nearly all the match points.
