Declarer decided that the spades were likely to be 4-1, and therefore cashing the spadeK was a non-starter, for that would lead to two trump losers. Accordingly, a small spade was led to the nine on which West threw a heart while East won with spadeQ and returned another club. South went up with the ace and drew trumps. The diamond queen was almost marked on the bidding with West, so declarer played ace another diamond and finessed the jack. diamondK and heartQ provided the parking places for South's two club losers. +420.

The defenders would have been much better to lead diamonds when in with clubQ and spadeQ. This cuts declarer off from dummy. West would also have been better advised to lead heartK at trick one.
