Zia reckons you must combine the possibilities of each side suit without committing yourself too early. Win clubJ, cash diamondA and spadeA and win another trump in hand, finding them to be two-two. Ruff a diamond, spadeK, ruff a spade (oh dear, they're four-two), ruff another diamond (oh dear, no king appears) and ruff another spade to establish North's last one. There are no trumps in dummy now and you still have two diamond losers. The fifth spade will take care of one of them, but the timing is not there for a squeeze, so we resort to the good old finesse in hearts to bring home the bacon.

How many centuries is it going to take to get beginners to get that one right? Answer: it's probably hypothetical - many novice Wests would lead heartK or spadeQ anyway! +1440
