The truth is it didn't matter - they both worked!

In fact Meyers, ruffed with the technically correct club7, drew trumps and gave up a heart for +920. This was a complete top, for all the heart slammers were defeated by the unkind position of heartKQ. Of course, it goes without saying that Meyers and Garner went on to win the event - their names were on the trophy.
