When South overcalled North envisaged a possible game and decided to enlist the help of "The Unassuming Cue-bid" or UCB. This popular convention is a bid of the opponent's suit after partner has overcalled, shows game aspirations and guarantees at least a partial fit for partner's suit. North decided this was a good moment to trundle out the UCB. East bid 3club, which was passed round to North who quietly bid 3spade to end the bidding.

Had North simply punted 4spade, which is certainly not scientific but what many experts would bid at IMPs scoring, his team would have had the chance of a game swing. How would you play 4spade on a diamond lead and switch to heart7?
