If you conducted a poll of the public and asked if they knew the name of a famous bridge player, there would probably be only two answers. "Duh" and "Omar Sharif". I'm not sure if Duh is playing much these days, but Omar is still seen occasionally at the bridge table.

Today's deal is one involving Omar at the 1999 Macallan International Pairs - the most prestigious pairs event to be held in this country. As I am somewhat unlikely to be asked to play in this event, and will therefore miss out on the the sponsor's hospitality, I believe that The Macallan is the 7 No Trumps of whiskey. Try their 25 year old Single Malt - it's magnificent. If that doesn't get me a case, then at least I tried!
