I met someone at a post Christmas party tonight who raised a good point with regard to players who are just entering the competitive bridge world for the first time. He said that when he and his wife had played badly on a particular board, in their eagerness to avoid making similar mistakes in the future, they had sought advice from their opponents - and generally found them very helpful. I would agree that this is a very good idea - with a few important exceptions. Don't ask for advice when a) you have just had a very good result against them b) you and your partner are at loggerheads and you want them to adjudicate.
