Dble Pass Pass Pass
Our correspondent made the obvious double. Not unreasonable, until you look at the hands. This was not East's favourite deal of the competition either, for after making a dubious 4spade bid, he duly plonked his singleton diamond on the table. East-West did not trouble the scorers as declarer racked up plus 1250.

However, I must say I have a certain sympathy with East - even 6spade doubled goes for less than when conceding 650 or 680 against 4heart. What's a bloke to do? Or a blokette for that matter?

You should agree with your partner whether bids at this vulnerability can include this type of overcall .
