South reasoned that having bid conservatively, he should play conservatively. On winning East's spadeK with the ace, he immediately played a low spade from hand! On winning the trump return in hand, he ruffed spade10 with dummy's diamondA, returned to hand via heartA, drew trumps and claimed. Had declarer crossed to dummy's diamondA and finessed the spade10 at trick three, West would ruff and play another trump. South would be left with no way of disposing his two spade losers.
