The first hurdle was to avoid a trump loser, but to maximize opportunities in the other suits this contract really does need trumps 2-2. Alternatively, you could play with the odds in the trump suit and hope that the other suits were kind. For instance, let's say you won the lead in hand and cashed spadeA dropping an honour from East. How would you rate your chances if you decided to finesse against the other honour and this proved to be successful? Think about it ...
