Our poor unfortunate West, reasoning that dummy must be void in clubs to justify the leap to 6heart, led the diamondA, as would all human beings. All other known species in the universe would have led the diamondK. Neither was a winning option. Declarer, who had been having too many of those interesting, wild mushrooms for breakfast, decided the best line was to throw his club loser on dummy's spades. This was a good idea, but not BEFORE drawing a round of trumps. West had to follow to three rounds of spades, and eventually came to just his trump trick. It was no surprise that he went on to lose the match.
