At the other table, one of the players featuring was also at the table when yesterday's hand occurred, the venerable Rob Sharpe. Although it looks as though horrendous bidding and Rob are ever to be closely associated, he is totally exonerated from being the source of such an abomination. When I play with him it's always my fault anyway. Perhaps he is just a catalyst.

On this occasion Rob found an extravagant but perfectly judged pre-empt to exploit the potential of the deal. Rob was playing with Mike Walsh against two good players from a neighbouring county.
