Today's hand comes from the British Trials for the World Bridge Olympiad in 1980. The selection process was a gruelling one, consisting of a weekend of Butler scoring (cross-IMPed against all other pairs) and for the top 50%, a further two weekends of fun. These days the process has changed somewhat because all references to the British Bridge League being an on-going concern are inoperative. In short, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England now have separate teams.
