Double dummy analyser: makeable contracts
West North East South
4spade Pass Pass
Pass
Today's deal comes from back in 1979 at the Llangollen congress. At most tables North had opened 4spade, and because of South's failure to go on, West was marked with some high cards. East therefore had no trouble finding the singleton lead, which West won and led back his lowest diamond, calling for a low suit (i.e. clubs) return. East ruffed, duly returned the club5 to his partner's Ace and the second diamond ruff defeated the contract.
